The EX30 has been a hit in Europe. In August, it was the second most popular electric car, right behind the Tesla Model Y. It's also Volvo's fourth best-selling model worldwide in 2024. The numbers tell the story - in September alone, Volvo sold 9,610 EX30s. That's not far behind their top sellers, the XC60 with 18,096 and the XC40/EX40 with 13,930.
Volvo started delivering the EX30 in December 2023, and by September 30, 2024, they'd made their 100,000th one. That's quick work for a new model.
Let's talk about the car itself. The EX30 is Volvo's smallest electric vehicle. It starts at about 36,000 euros. If you want the bigger battery, it'll cost you an extra 4,200 euros. With the standard battery, you can drive about 440 km (274 miles) on a single charge. The extended range battery bumps that up to 592 km (368 miles).
Right now, Volvo makes the EX30 in China, in the same factory as the Zeekr X and Smart #1. All these brands are owned by Geely. But Volvo plans to move production to Ghent, Belgium. Why? They want to avoid big tariffs in Europe and North America.
Speaking of North America, Volvo has had to push back the EX30's U.S. launch to 2025. The reason? Huge tariff increases on Chinese-built electric vehicles. But when it does arrive, if Volvo can stick to their target price of $34,950, Americans will likely snap it up.
