Toyota and Subaru are teaming up again to create a new electric SUV. The car companies will start making this vehicle in January 2026, according to a report from Nikkei Asia.

The two companies have already worked together on electric cars. They built the Toyota bZ4X and Subaru Solterra at Toyota's factory in Aichi. Now, they're planning to make their new SUV at Subaru's Yajima site.

Instead of starting from scratch, Toyota and Subaru will use parts from cars they already make. This approach will help them develop the new SUV faster and keep costs down. They want to produce between 15,000 and 20,000 of these cars every month.

The companies plan to sell the new SUV in North America, Europe, and Japan. They might also offer it in other countries.

Right now, the Toyota bZ4X costs $44,465 in the US, while the Subaru Solterra starts at $46,340. We don't know yet if the new SUV will be cheaper than these models.

Toyota and Subaru aren't stopping with just one new electric car. They're working on three new crossover EVs in total. We'll likely see these new vehicles in the second half of next year.

It's worth noting that while Toyota and Subaru are pushing forward with electric cars, they haven't given up on petrol engines. A few months ago, they joined Mazda in announcing plans for new and improved internal combustion engines.
