Citroen has unveiled its updated C4 and C4 X models at the 2024 Paris Auto Show. The French automaker presented mid-life changes for both the hatchback and crossover versions of its popular C4 line.

The C4 hatchback, which first hit the roads in 2020, and its crossover sibling, the C4 X from 2022, are getting a fresh look.

On the outside, the front of both models gets the most noticeable changes. The headlights are now slimmer and boxier, split into two parts. The grille sports a new oval emblem, replacing the old chrome double chevron. The bumper looks more sculpted, with less plastic cladding and a skid plate that looks like aluminum.

When you look at the cars from the side, not much has changed. Citroen has added new designs for the alloy wheels, but that's about it. The rear of the C4 hatchback now looks cleaner, with new LED taillights sitting below the rear spoiler. The C4 X crossover's back end stays pretty much the same, just getting updated Citroen branding.

Inside the cars, Citroen has made some nice upgrades. The seats now have thicker foam padding, which should make long drives more comfortable. A new 7-inch digital instrument cluster joins the existing 10-inch infotainment touchscreen, giving the interior a more modern feel.

Under the hood, Citroen offers a few different engine choices. There's a mild-hybrid option with a turbocharged 1.2-liter engine. This comes in two power levels: one with a 100 hp combustion engine and a 29 hp electric motor, and another with a 136 hp combustion engine and the same 29 hp electric motor. Both use a six-speed automatic gearbox.

For those who want to go all-electric, Citroen has two options. The first has 136 hp and a 50 kWh battery, giving the C4 a range of 355 km and the C4 X a range of 360 km. The second option bumps up the power to 156 hp with a 54 kWh battery, increasing the range to 415 km for the C4 and 425 km for the C4 X. All electric versions are front-wheel drive.

In some markets, Citroen will still offer versions with only an internal combustion engine, but they haven't given details on these yet.

European drivers can expect to see the updated C4 and C4 X in showrooms in early 2025. Citroen hasn't announced prices yet, but they'll likely do so closer to when the cars go on sale.
