This new tech, called Holographic Windshield Display, will show driving info and entertainment right on the windshield. It'll stretch from the driver's seat all the way to the passenger side.
As this technology is a next-generation display technology with no current mass production examples, the two companies plan to start mass production as early as 2027 through close technical cooperation.
Hyundai Mobis will handle the system development and make the projector. They've got their work cut out for them. The projector needs to be small, quiet, and cool. It'll beam content onto a see-through screen on the windshield.
ZEISS, known for their top-notch optical gear, will create the transparent display. They'll use their special holographic tech to make it happen.
The thickness of the film is less than 100 micrometers (about 0.1 mm), barely thicker than human hair. It'll have special patterns that let it show images without blocking the driver's view.
Looking ahead, we might see navigation info spread across the whole windshield. Passengers could watch movies on the side windows. You might even make video calls on a glass screen in your car.
Right now, no cars on the road have this tech. But Hyundai Mobis and ZEISS aim to change that in just a few years. They're betting this will be the next big thing in car displays, making driving safer and more fun.
