Kia has launched a new hybrid crossover that can run on LPG. The Kia Niro Tri-Fuel promises to go over 1,600 km on a single fill-up, giving drivers a solution for long trips without worrying about running out of fuel.

The Italian market gets this unique version of the Niro. It's the first full hybrid that can use LPG in Italy. The car has three fuel systems: a 42-liter gas tank, a 40-liter LPG tank under the cargo floor, and a 1.32-kWh battery.

Kia says this setup lets the Niro Tri-Fuel drive about 1,600 kilometers before needing to refuel. That's a lot farther than most electric cars can go, and even beats many diesel vehicles without trying to save fuel.

The car's engine is a 1.6-liter four-cylinder that makes 90 hp. An electric motor adds 43 hp. Together, they put out 126 hp and 265 Nm of torque. Drivers can switch between gas and LPG with a button near the start/stop button.

Using LPG cuts CO2 emissions by 6% compared to the regular hybrid. Kia has partnered with BRC, part of Westport Fuel Systems Italia, for the LPG system.

The Niro Tri-Fuel costs €2,000 more than the regular model. But Kia says drivers can save up to €5,000 on fuel over time. Prices start at €34,450 for the base model and go up to €39,200 for the top trim.
