The car will share its core design with the upcoming Renault Twingo EV. Both cars will use Renault's Ampr Small platform, which will also support other models like the Renault 4 and Renault 5.
Nissan CEO Makoto Uchida announced the plan during a televised address at Ampere's ElectriCity production hub in northern France. He said the company wants to get back into making small cars for European cities after more than ten years away from that market.
This new city car isn't Nissan's only project using the Ampr Small platform. The company is already working on an electric replacement for its Micra supermini, set to launch in 2025.
Nissan hasn't shared any details about what the new city car will look like, when it will go on sale, or how much it will cost. But the company seems committed to expanding its electric vehicle lineup in Europe.
