The Golden Steering Wheel awards rolled into Berlin on Thursday, bringing together the best and brightest of the automotive world. The 48th edition of this annual ceremony took place at the Axel Springer House, with Auto Bild and Bild am Sonntag at the helm.

In the small car category, the Mini Cooper drove away with the top prize. The VW Golf 8 nabbed the award for the compact class, while the Skoda Octavia RS Combi took the crown in the mid-range class.

Porsche had a stellar night, clinching two major awards. The Porsche Taycan Turbo GT won in the upper and luxury class category. The company's winning streak continued with the Porsche 911 Carrera GTS taking home the sports car category award.

But the awards didn't stop there. Readers got their say too, choosing the Aston Martin Vantage as the most beautiful car of the year. For those in the market for a pre-loved ride, the BMW 3 Series (G20, 21, 80, 81) was named the most popular used car.

In a nod to the future of automotive design, the Tesla Cybertruck drove off with the title of Coolest Car.

The path to victory wasn't easy for these wheeled wonders. The selection process started with readers voting from a pool of 78 new releases. Then, a panel of 18 experts, including racing drivers and influencers, put the top 21 finalists through their paces at the DEKRA Lausitzring.
