This new SUV has been in development for quite some time. Hyundai first hinted at its arrival back at the 2021 Los Angeles Auto Show with the SEVEN concept (shown in the photo above). Then, last August, the company said it would be called the IONIQ 9 and would be the flagship of its electric car lineup.
Hyundai has continued to tease with small bits of information. Less than a fortnight ago, it showed the outline of the car and talked about what they call the "aero" design.
Now, in a new video, you can get a better look at the IONIQ 9. It has a noticeable light bar at the front, similar to the one available on the Tesla Cybertruck. You can also notice that the interior of the car is really spacious.
The IONIQ 9 is a big deal for Hyundai. It is the brand's first electric SUV with rows of seats, built on a special electric vehicle platform called E-GMP. Hyundai says they drew inspiration from boats when developing the design, aiming for a sleek exterior and a cosy, spacious interior.
The Hyundai IONIQ 9 will probably be about the same size as the Kia EV9. The dimensions of the latter are: 5015 mm x 1980 mm x 1780 mm.
Hyundai is going to assemble the IONIQ 9 at its new plant in Georgia. The updated version of the IONIQ 5 will also be produced there in 2025. Prices are likely to start at around $55,000.
