The company shared the news at an event in China. Wang Chuanfu, who started BYD and runs it as Chairman and CEO, said it took them just 30 years to reach this point. BYD also posted about it on Weibo, China's version of Twitter. They put up some photos with a caption that said, "Dare to overcome all difficulties. Technology is the basis of courage, and engineers are the driving force of technological innovation."
The 10 millionth car was a black Denza Z9. Denza used to be a team-up between Mercedes Benz and BYD, but now BYD owns it all. They showed off this new model at the Beijing Auto Show in April.
The Denza Z9 is a big wagon, about 5.2 meters long. It comes as either a full electric or a plug-in hybrid. The electric version has a pretty big battery - 100 kWh. It can go about 630 km on a single charge in China, which might be closer to 500 km in Europe. It can charge really fast too, up to 270 kW.
This car's got some muscle. It has three motors that together put out 710 kW. That means it can go from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.5 seconds.
BYD's not slowing down. They're selling over 500,000 cars globally each month. They think by 2025, they'll be making more than 5 million electric and hybrid cars every year. They're also planning to keep expanding around the world.
This 10 million mark shows how fast BYD is growing. They're really giving Tesla a run for its money in the global electric car market.
