Volkswagen has enhanced the Tiguan with a turbocharged 2.0-liter EA888 engine that produces 201 horsepower, a notable increase from the previous 184 horsepower. It comes with an eight-speed automatic gearbox. The car is now built on the MQB Evo platform, an upgrade from the MQB Classic, supporting a weight reduction of 170 pounds (77 kg) thanks to extensive use of aluminum.
Regarding towing capacity, standard models can handle up to 1,500 pounds (680 kg) while those equipped with the 4Motion All-Wheel Drive system can tow up to 1,800 pounds (815 kg). Although specific fuel economy details have not been released, an improvement is expected due to the vehicle's lighter weight and new engine dynamics.
The exterior design sees a revamped look with a shorter rear overhang and larger overall size which contributes to an athletic appearance enhanced by sharp creases and squared wheel wells. The vehicle comes standard with 17-inch wheels and offers options for larger 19-inch or 20-inch wheels.
Inside, the Digital Cockpit spans an impressive standard size of 10.25 inches. The infotainment display starts at 12.9 inches with an option to upgrade to a sizeable 15-inch screen. Climate control improves from two-zone Climatronic as standard upping to optional three zones based on choice.
The Tiguan also focuses significantly on safety features including a total of ten airbags, adaptive front lighting as standard, and advanced IQ.Drive Suite for assistance technologies like forward collision warning and adaptive cruise control.
Volkswagen has not yet released specific pricing details for different trims of the third-gen Tiguan.
