Hyundai's got a big problem on their hands. The car company just announced they're calling back more than 226,000 vehicles. It's the biggest recall of the year, and it's all because of a faulty rearview camera.

The issue affects several popular Hyundai models. The 2021 and 2022 Santa Fe, including the hybrid version, are on the list. So is the 2022 Santa Fe plug-in hybrid. The 2021 and 2022 Elantra models are also affected, along with 1,186 units of the 2022 Elantra N.

What's wrong with these cars? The rearview cameras might stop working because of a problem with the printed circuit boards. The solder joints aren't strong enough, which means they could crack over time. If that happens, the camera will fail.

This isn't just an inconvenience. It's a safety issue. Rearview cameras help drivers see what's behind their car, which is crucial for avoiding accidents.

Hyundai's going to fix the problem by replacing the old cameras with new ones. They'll start letting dealers and car owners know about this in early January 2025.

The good news is that so far, there haven't been any accidents, injuries, or property damage reported because of this issue.
This isn't the first time Hyundai's had to recall cars recently. In February 2023, they called back over 186,000 Elantras from 2015 and 2016 because of a problem with the emergency trunk release. They've also had to deal with an electric vehicle recall affecting more than 145,000 cars, including models like the Ioniq 5, Ioniq 6, and several Genesis vehicles.
