The Toyota Urban Cruiser is the production version of the Urban SUV Concept unveiled last year. Technically, the new car is a relative of the Suzuki e Vitara, which will be sold in India under the Maruti brand.
The new Urban Cruiser is slightly larger than the hybrid Toyota Yaris Cross in European specification. The length, width and height are: 4285 mm / 1800 mm / 1640 mm. The Urban Cruiser's wheelbase is 140mm longer than the Yaris Cross: 2,700mm.
Toyota claims that thanks to the sliding rear seat system, the distance between front and rear passengers can be easily adjusted to create space that is comparable to much larger D-segment cars. The seats fold in a 40:20:40 configuration and can also recline.

The vehicle is built on a new platform designed for battery electric vehicles. The Urban Cruiser will be offered with two battery options and a choice of front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. Both batteries are lithium-iron-phosphate.
The 49 kWh battery is only available in the front-wheel drive version of the Toyota Urban Cruiser with a single engine with 144 hp and 189 Nm of torque. The 61 kWh battery is available in both the front-wheel drive version (174 hp, 189 Nm) and the all-wheel drive version (184 hp, 300 Nm).
All Urban Cruiser versions are equipped with an energy-saving heat pump for the air conditioning system and battery preheating to optimise performance in cold conditions.
The cabin features a unified unit with a 10.1-inch multimedia system display and a 10.25-inch instrument cluster. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard equipment. Other available features, depending on the vehicle's equipment level, include an electrically adjustable driver's seat, a JBL audio system and a fixed sunroof.
All European versions of the Urban Cruiser will get a comprehensive package of active safety and driver assistance systems: collision warning system, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning and lane keeping assist. A 360-degree camera system gives the driver a full view of the vehicle's surroundings when manoeuvring on uneven surfaces or parking in tight spaces.
Toyota Urban Cruiser prices have not yet been announced. The public debut of the new vehicle will take place in January 2025 at the Brussels Motor Show.
