In Android Auto, all audio apps including YouTube Music, Spotify, Apple Music and others use the same design for the music player. The layout remains the same for the convenience of the driver, who doesn't have to re-learn the location of items on the screen for each app. The last major update to the look of Android Auto was in 2023 and until the Android Auto 13.4 update, the music player remained largely unchanged.
In Android Auto 13.4, the music player has moved the album art to the left side, making room next to it for the track progress bar, with the track title, artist and time listed below it as before. The lyrics have also gotten a little smaller to fit. The new design (the image below shows the Spotify player) also utilises the updated Android Auto font, which also recently went live.
Authors at 9to5google have speculated that this update could be a sign that Google is getting closer to a "Car Media" update. The latter is expected to allow Android Auto to play local car media, including radio stations. However, there's no official confirmation of this yet.
