Norwegians bought 128,691 new passenger cars last year, and 89 per cent of them were electric cars.
In Norway, nine out of 10 new cars last year were electric, the country's next step towards an ambitious target: in 2025, all new cars must have zero emissions, the Norwegian Road Federation (OFV) said.
Overall, new car sales were up 1.4% compared to 2023. Even those who opted for a non-electric car mostly settled for hybrids (5.3%) or plug-in hybrids (2.7%). Only 986 new cars were petrol cars.
Norway's top 10 models in 2024 look like this:
- Tesla Model Y - 16,858 units.
- Tesla Model 3 - 7,264 units.
- Volvo EX30 - 7,229 units.
- Volkswagen ID.4 - 7,222 units.
- Toyota bZ4X - 6,007 units.
- Skoda Enyaq - 4,610 units.
- Nissan Ariya - 3,772 units.
- Volkswagen ID.3 - 3,634 units.
- Toyota Yaris - 3 523 units.
- Audi Q4 e-tron - 3,449 units.
Norway also imported more than 6,000 used cars in 2024, 63 per cent of which were electric cars. The most popular used car models are the Tesla Model Y, Tesla Model 3 and Volkswagen ID.4.
