The Continental concept unveiled at CES features an E Ink display 1.3 metres wide and 4 cm high. The screen can display any images to the users' taste and preferences. However, as with most e-books, only in black and grey.
Continental claims that this results in a "striking minimalist aesthetic in a colourful world". Future cars with colour E Ink displays are a possibility.
E Ink displays have become popular in e-book readers. The benefits of the technology include low power consumption during the short switching time between images. This means that even when the car is parked or switched off, the content on the screen will remain visible. Continental also noted that it "reflects light like real paper" and the screen doesn't need to be backlit like conventional displays.
Continental didn't limit itself to just E Ink displays in the cabin, however. At CES 2025, the company also unveiled its "Window Projection" system, which can project images onto the rear side windows of a car. Any kind of information can be displayed, from the battery charging status of an electric car to the logos of your favourite sports team.
