Chevrolet has unveiled the new Spark EUV in Brazil, which turns out to be essentially a renamed Baojun Yep Plus of SAIC GM Wuling joint venture from China.

Chevrolet has decided to bring the Spark model back to the South American market, but with a slight Chinese accent. During the brand's 100th anniversary celebrations in Brazil, the Chevrolet Spark EUV electric crossover was unveiled, which is actually a rebranding of China's Baojun Yep Plus.

The new Spark EUV is a compact electric crossover that measures 3,996 mm long with a wheelbase of 2,560 mm, making it the smallest Chevrolet model on the market. Specifications have not yet been officially announced, but given the near 100 per cent visual similarity to the Baojun Yep Plus, there's little doubt that it features a 101bhp rear electric motor and a 41.9kWh battery that provides a range of up to 401km on the Chinese CLTC cycle. In the Chinese version, the cabin is equipped with two 10.2-inch displays and driver assistance systems from DJI.

While the exact launch date and price for the Brazilian market is yet to be announced, the Baojun Yep Plus costs around $12,900 in China. Chevrolet plans to launch 10 new models in Brazil by 2025, five of which will be "significant" new products, and the Spark EUV is likely to be one of them.

Context

Chevrolet has already launched the Spark EV compact electric hatchback, which was sold in some US states from 2013 to 2017 before being replaced by the Bolt model. The Spark EUV unveiled in Brazil only shares the same name with that car.
