The name Grandis comes from a Latin word meaning "large" and "impressive". According to the company's press release, it was chosen to reflect the spacious interior space and "powerful, confident look" with a reinterpretation of Mitsubishi Motors' signature "Dynamic Shield" design on the front fascia and signature "Hexaguard Horizon" rear end design.
Teaser photos show off the grille and tailgate of the Grandis. The crossover is expected to share most of the bodywork and interior design with the 4.4-metre Renault Symbioz.

The Grandis will get a suite of driving assistance systems (ADAS) and in-built Google services. The car will be available with mild hybrid (MHEV) and full hybrid (HEV) powertrains. Mitsubishi has confirmed that the Grandis will be unveiled in July, and is scheduled to enter European markets in late autumn 2025.
The Grandis will later be joined by an as yet unnamed compact crossover with an all-electric powertrain. It will be Mitsubishi's version of the Renault Scenic E-Tech.
