Audi has officially announced the new generation of the A6. The first to be unveiled is the A6 Avant station wagon on 4 March, followed by the debut of the sedan.

Audi originally planned to rename the new A6 with an internal combustion engine to A7 to differentiate between the electric A6 e-tron and petrol-diesel versions. But récemment the company changed its mind, and the next generation will retain the familiar A6 name.

Although the teaser doesn't reveal any details, there are already leaks online that show the novelty without camouflage. YouTube channel KondorCars has published shorts that show the Audi A6 Avant in the S-Line version, which features aggressive bumpers, larger wheels and darkened emblems.

The look of the new A6 is very similar to the Audi A5, but with a taller grille and headlights similar to the RS6 and A7 Sportback. A full body-width LED strip is also noticeable on the teaser.

The new Audi A6 is expected to be built on the PPC (Premium Platform Combustion) platform, which is an updated version of the MLB Evo architecture already used in the current models. The engine line-up will include petrol and diesel units with mild hybrid technology.

More details about the novelty will be known on 4 March at the official world premiere.
