Ford of Europe communications manager Finn Thomasen has told Motor1 that production of the Focus in Zarlouis, Germany, will cease in November. Unfortunately, there are no plans for a direct successor.
Ford's press office also said that customers can still order the new Focus in their desired configuration. But as the end of production approaches, configurators will be closed. After that, the choice will be limited to the remaining in-stock configurations.
Why is Ford removing the Focus from its line-up? CEO Jim Farley said the company is "getting out of the boring car business and into the iconic car business." In an interview last year, the Ford Motor chief admitted that cars like the Focus, Fiesta and Mondeo were "loved by many customers", but the harsh reality was that Ford wasn't making enough money to justify future investment. Models such as the Bronco, Tremor, Raptor and Mustang will form the core of the range.
Ford Focus
The first generation Ford Focus was introduced in 1998 as the successor to the popular Ford Escort and made its debut at the Geneva Motor Show. Currently, the fourth generation Ford Focus is produced in Germany.
