The jury of the European Car Of The Year 2025 competition has announced the winners at a ceremony marking the start of the Brussels International Motor Show. The Renault 5 and its sporty Alpine A290 version shared the top honours.

The Renault 5 has been named the best car of 2025, beating six other contenders in the final: Alfa Romeo Junior, Citroën C3-ëC3, Cupra Terramar, Dacia Duster, Hyundai Inster and Kia EV3. This year's contest was more competitive than ever, as all finalists had electrified versions and most of them were 100 per cent electric.

The previous ones were in 1995 and 1996 with the Fiat Punto and Fiat Bravo.

The winner was chosen by a 60-member jury of automotive journalists from Europe's leading media, with Renault CEO Fabrice Cambolive and Alpine CEO Philippe Krief taking the honours from the manufacturers.
