The official premiere of the new electric crossover Toyota Urban Cruiser took place in Brussels. The model will go on sale in autumn 2025.

The Urban Cruiser has a typical new Toyota design with a hammerhead-style front end, narrow headlights and massive rear fenders with LED stripes. The electric car is slightly larger than the Yaris Cross Hybrid, but offers a spacious interior thanks to a wheelbase of 2,700 mm. In the model range of the Japanese brand, the Toyota Urban Cruiser will occupy a place between the Yaris Cross and C-HR.

The Urban Cruiser is built on a new electric platform without transverse stiffeners in the floor, which allows for more efficient battery placement. The model is available in front-wheel drive (FWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD) versions:

  • FWD: 49 kWh battery, 106 kW (144 hp), range (WLTP) 300 kilometres;
  • FWD: 61 kWh battery, 128 kW (174 hp), range (WLTP) 400 km;
  • AWD: 61 kWh battery, 135 kW (184 hp), range (WLTP) 350 km.

The AWD version gets an additional 48-kilowatt motor on the rear axle, as well as Downhill Assist Control and Trail Mode functions to assist the driver on difficult surfaces.

Toyota used lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) batteries in the Urban Cruiser, which are longer-lasting and cheaper to manufacture than lithium-ion batteries. The new model is covered by the Battery Care Programme, which guarantees battery life for up to 10 years or 1 million kilometres (subject to annual checks).

Urban Cruiser features:

  • Sliding rear seats allow for more space for passengers or luggage
  • Interior: 10.25-inch digital dashboard and 10.1-inch multimedia display
  • Interior lighting with 12 colour modes
  • Optional extras: 360-degree camera, JBL audio system, panoramic sunroof

The Urban Cruiser will get a full suite of active driver assistance systems including:

  • Adaptive Cruise Control
  • Collision Avoidance System
  • Lane Keeping Control

Toyota will introduce a total of six new electric vehicle models in Europe by 2026. The larger alternative to the Urban Cruiser will be the battery-electric Toyota C-HR+.
