Audi will postpone the transition to an all-electric vehicle line-up. The move makes sense, especially when you consider that Porsche still plans to produce models with internal combustion engines (ICE) until the 2030s.
Audi CEO Gernot Döllner said at the Audi 2025 media conference that the company is launching not only new electric models, but also a new generation of internal combustion engine vehicles and plug-in hybrids. He also emphasised that the abandonment of internal combustion engine models will depend on developments in global markets.
Previously, Audi promised that the next-generation Q7 would be its last model with internal combustion engines - the development of such engines was supposed to stop in 2026, and sales would continue until about 2032. But now there is no clear deadline for abandoning the internal combustion engine.
The company's decision is in line with the trend in the industry: BMW, Mercedes, Volvo and Porsche are also postponing the full transition to electric traction. Obviously, when demand for electric cars isn't growing as fast as manufacturers expected, Audi decided to adjust to the market rather than chase hard deadlines.
