The Chinese brand MG has announced the European presentation of a new electric crossover that will compete with the popular Tesla Model Y. The premiere will take place on July 10 at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

One and a half years ago at the Geneva Motor Show, MG showcased the luxury sub-brand IM. It was already clear then that IM cars would appear in Europe sooner or later. It seems that this time has come.

The teaser photo shows the silhouette of the car that was presented in Geneva as the IM LS6. In Australia, this model is already sold under the name IM6.

If we focus on the Australian market, the novelty will be called MG IM6 in Europe. However, the rear of the Australian version still has the "MG Motors" inscription. Perhaps, for Europe, marketers will change something and simply put the regular MG logo. The crossover, which is about 4.9 meters long, will compete with the Tesla Model Y and Ford Mustang Mach-E.

On paper, IM6 looks interesting. The model is available with several types of batteries: there are more affordable LFP batteries and advanced NMC ones that support fast charging at a power of almost 400 kW. According to Australian data, with a 100 kWh battery, the IM6 can travel up to 555 km on the WLTP cycle.

The lineup starts with a rear-wheel-drive version that produces 294 hp. The most powerful variant delivers up to 787 hp and has an all-wheel drive system.

An interesting detail: the IM sub-brand in China already has the L6 sedan with a solid-state battery - this is next-generation technology promising even greater capacity and safety. Perhaps, over time, such batteries will also appear in European MG models.
