The Toyota RAV4 crossover surpassed the Tesla Model Y and became the best-selling car in the world in 2024, according to new data from automotive analyst JATO Dynamics Felipe Munoz.

Munoz analyzed data from national statistical offices, dealer associations, and his own sources in the automotive industry. According to his estimates, global sales of Toyota RAV4/Wildlander last year were approximately 1,187,000 units, which is 11% more than the previous year. Meanwhile, sales of the Tesla Model Y were 1,185,000 units - 3% less than in 2023. The third place went to the Toyota Corolla Cross/Frontlander - 859,000 units with an increase of 18%.

Also interesting is that the Toyota Corolla/Levin Sedan was only in fifth place with a result of 697,000 units, experiencing a sales drop of 11%. Although the Corolla sedan had remained in the top ranks of global model rankings for many years.

Another interesting fact is the appearance of the Chinese electric sedan BYD Qin in the "Top-10" list. Reportedly, sales of this model amounted to about 502,000 units (+6%).

Munoz reported that his figures are based on data from 153 markets, which account for 99% of global new car sales.
