In total, from January to June 2025, 89,547 new passenger cars were registered in Denmark, which is an increase of 3.8% compared to the same period last year. Of these, 57,171 are electric cars, representing an increase of almost 47% year-on-year. The share of electric vehicles in the market reached 63.8%, while a year ago it was 45%.
The share of electric vehicles among private buyers is growing especially quickly: in June, electric models accounted for almost 86% of all private registrations.
"Demand for electric vehicles was high in 2024, and now it has grown even stronger - especially among private owners," noted Mads Rørvig, CEO of Mobility Denmark. - "This is an important step towards achieving climate goals, as electric vehicles do not emit CO₂, and this is a direction that needs to be preserved".
Rørvig also urged the authorities to reform taxation: "Politicians should consider creating a new, simpler model of vehicle taxation that will be advantageous for everyone and provide stable support for the green transition".
According to bilstatistik.dk, the most popular models in the first half of 2025 were:
