Lamborghini reconsiders plans for introducing electric vehicles: The fully electric Urus has been postponed at least until the middle of the next decade. This was stated by the company’s president and CEO, Stephan Winkelmann, in an interview with Autocar.

According to Lamborghini’s head, the company has decided to retain the hybrid drive with an internal combustion engine for the next generation of the crossover, which is expected in 2029. He also added that many customers will be happy to keep the internal combustion engine.

Which drive unit will be used in the new Urus has not yet been specified. However, the recently unveiled Urus SE already offers a hybrid system with a 4.0-liter V8 and an electric motor, which together have an output of 800 hp – making it the most powerful version of the model to date.

The first serial electric vehicle from Lamborghini was supposed to be the crossover Lanzador, but its market launch has also been delayed from 2028 to 2029. And the fully electric Urus could now appear around 2035.

At the company, they explain that the changes are related to uncertainty in regulation, especially regarding possible adjustments to the internal combustion engine ban in the European Union, which could be passed as early as next year. This gives manufacturers more leeway – especially brands like Lamborghini, where preserving the character of the model directly depends on the sound and feel of the engine.
