The head of production at Mercedes, Jörg Burzer, announced the extension of the production timeline. He declined to specify the exact end date for production but confirmed that it is indeed about extending the current generation (W177), which debuted in 2018 and underwent a facelift in 2022.
By 2028, the A-Class will celebrate a decade on the market - a rare lifespan for models in this segment. A second facelift is not excluded to maintain competitiveness against the BMW 1 Series and Audi A3. However, there is no talk of a new generation. The A-Class will complete its final cycle and will make way for the next CLA in the model lineup.
In the US market, the A-Class is no longer sold, but in Europe, demand remains stable: during the first five months of 2025, 27,772 units were sold, which is 15% less than the same period last year. Meanwhile, the B-Class has proven less popular - only 5,997 cars - and as planned, it will be discontinued in 2026.
To free up production capacity in the German city of Rastatt for the production of models on the MMA platform, Mercedes will move the final assembly of the A-Class to the Hungarian city of Kecskemét. It is there that the model will be produced until 2028.
