The Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X has officially been recognized as the fastest American car at the legendary Nürburgring racetrack in Germany. With a lap time of 6:49.275 minutes, this 1250-horsepower (1267 metric horsepower) hybrid surpassed the Ford Mustang GTD by 2.8 seconds. Although it only placed fifth overall.
In the record-breaking run on the 20.8 km track, the Corvette ZR1X was driven by GM vehicle dynamics engineer Drew Cattell. His best result is close, but still slightly less than the AMG GT Black, which recorded a time of 6:48.047 in 2020. Also, the Porsche 911 GT2 RS (700 hp) managed to complete the lap in 6:43.3 a year later. Among them, the hypercar AMG One leads, with its time of 6:29.09 set in 2023 unlikely to be beaten anytime soon.
