The Autocar reported, citing insiders, that production of the Volkswagen Touareg will stop in 2026 without a direct replacement. It is claimed that the company will instead focus on creating a range of more affordable models for a wider audience.

The Touareg was introduced in 2002. The Volkswagen model was developed alongside the first generation of the Porsche Cayenne, using the same platform and serving a dual purpose: to provide Porsche with its first SUV and to help former Volkswagen Chairman Ferdinand Piëch realize his ambitions to elevate the Volkswagen brand with premium models like the Touareg and the Phaeton sedan.

Volkswagen isn’t abandoning European buyers who desire something more. Last October, the company introduced the Tayron, available in two- and three-row configurations.

In addition to the Touareg, VW has also decided to exclude the electric model ID 5 from its lineup, which remained overshadowed by the more popular ID 4. According to unconfirmed official information, the last model year for the electric car will be 2027.
