The pre-series assembly of the first electric vehicle Sony Honda Mobility — the Afeela 1 sedan — has begun at the Honda plant in East Liberty (Ohio, USA).

At this stage, engineers are working on the fitting of parts, paint quality, and assembly accuracy before the full-scale production launch, scheduled for 2026. This is an important step for a project that has been in development for over two years.

The Afeela 1 was first shown in 2023 as a concept, focusing on connected services, advanced driver assistance systems, and multimedia with proprietary Sony technologies.

The serial sedan will be offered in two versions: Origin (from $89,900) and Signature (from $102,900). Both are equipped with all-wheel drive powered by two 180-kilowatt electric motors, a 91 kWh battery, and aim for a range of about 300 miles (483 km). Deliveries of the Signature modification will begin in mid-2026, while the Origin will be released a year later.

For the Afeela 1, the plant in East Liberty, which usually produces the Honda CR-V and Acura models, is implementing new assembly technologies: the sedan will feature a unique body design with more than 40 sensors, including lidar, for driver assistance systems. The AI interface from Sony will personalize the interaction with the car.

The pre-series assembly allows testing new technological solutions in real production conditions before the first customer vehicles are released.
