The Ford Mustang Dark Horse is powerful and fast by itself. Its 5.0-liter V8 engine with 500 hp accelerates the car to 60 mph (97 km/h) in about four seconds. However, for Shelby American, simply being "fast" is not an option.
The Shelby Super Snake-R for the 2026 model year debuted at "Monterey Car Week." It is based on the standard Mustang Dark Horse but has a number of technical and visual enhancements.
The main feature is under the hood. The V8 Coyote engine has received a supercharger, and the power has increased to over 850 hp, which is 20 hp more than the current Super Snake. The drive is only to the rear wheels, with transmission options: a 6-speed manual Tremec or a 10-speed automatic.

The model comes equipped with fully adjustable coilovers, wider Michelin tires, lightweight alloy wheels, and perforated brake discs. At the back is a large rear wing to increase downforce. All of this is complemented by aggressive new bumpers and carbon fiber panels. The color palette includes five colors: Carbonized Gray Metallic, Grabber Blue Metallic, Oxford White, Race Red, and Shadow Black.
The interior has been redesigned in a sports style: bucket-shaped seats with Shelby logos, Alcantara and leather trim, and an aluminum shifter for the manual version. Each car has an individual number on plaques in the interior.
Despite all the changes, the weight is 4004 pounds (1816 kg) - only 116 pounds (53 kg) more than the standard Dark Horse.
The starting price of the 2026 Super Snake-R is $225,995, including the cost of the donor Mustang Dark Horse. Not cheap, but still less than the $325,000 Ford Mustang GTD.
