Ford has filed applications for the trademarks Evos, Fathom, Fuze, Hive, and Mythic with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). The documents are dated August 5, 2025, and cover a wide range of vehicles - from passenger cars and pickups to electric vehicles and their components.

Ford Motor is currently working on a new platform for budget electric vehicles, which is set to be the basis for an entire family of models. The first of these is a midsize pickup. It is still unclear what name it will receive: will it keep the Ranger, revive one of the old names, or will it get an entirely new one? On the same day, Ford also applied for the Ranchero trademark, which may hint at the return of the legendary name specifically for the upcoming pickup.

The files with the new names appeared just a few days before the major announcement, which Ford calls the "Model T moment". It is likely that a new electric pickup will debut on that day, and perhaps the platform itself will be presented.

Of the fresh names, the most familiar appears to be Evos: this name was previously used in China for a crossover that has recently been renamed Mondeo Sport. It is possible that the registered names will be used not only for models but also for specific configurations or versions of future electric vehicles.

Ford enjoys reviving old names instead of coming up with new ones: just think of the revived Lightning and Maverick. Additionally, the company has previously registered names such as Capri, Cortina, Escort, Granada, and Orion in various countries. Against this backdrop, the appearance of several applications ahead of a key electric vehicle announcement seems deliberate.
