BYD has announced that its prototype Yangwang U9 has achieved a maximum speed of 472.41 km/h. This is the best result among all Chinese-produced electric vehicles and in the world overall, but only if we do not take into account special record-setting vehicles.

Yangwang U9 has proven to be very fast. However, it still does not reach the absolute world record among electric cars - 549.4 km/h. This achievement was set on September 19, 2016, by the experimental vehicle Venturi Buckeye Bullet 3, built by a student team from Ohio State University specifically for the record. On the other hand, Bullet 3 looks more like a rocket than a car. The U9, however, looks like a conventional sports car and is being produced serially since August 2024. A total of 149 units have been delivered in the last year.

Thus, the Yangwang U9 has entered the list of the fastest hypercars on the planet. For example, the Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut can accelerate to 531 km/h, the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport to 490 km/h, and the SSC Tuatara to 474.8 km/h. All mentioned models have internal combustion engines and cost millions of dollars. The U9 is fully electric and is priced at 1.68 million yuan (232,500 USD).
