At the IAA Mobility 2025 auto show in Munich, Mercedes head Ola Källenius announced that prototypes of the "Mini G" will soon hit the roads. Additionally, a teaser of the new model was shown.
Chief Technical Officer Markus Schäfer clarified that a unique architecture is being created for the model to preserve the true spirit of the G-Class. According to him, it will have a miniature frame with original suspension. At the same time, most components, including body panels, are being developed from scratch. Even the door handles on the new off-roader will be different from those on the larger version.
According to Autocar, the new Mini G will be fully electric. This will be one of the key differences from the larger G-Class, which is available with both ICE and in battery version EQ. Details about the Mercedes powertrain have not been disclosed yet.
In terms of design, the compact off-roader will resemble its "older brother," but will feature sharper lines and modern lighting. Chief designer Gorden Wagener emphasized: it is not possible to radically change the appearance of the iconic model; we are talking about fine touches – a different headlight graphics while retaining recognizable round elements.
The appearance of the production Mini G on the roads can be expected in about two years.
