Bentley has abandoned its goal of transitioning to solely electric vehicles, previously planned for 2035. Future flagship models will again include gasoline versions.

Bentley is abandoning plans to become fully electric. This is yet another turnaround for Bentley, which initially aimed to sell only electric vehicles by 2030, then pushed this date to 2035, and now it is unknown when.

In an interview with Autocar, Bentley CEO Frank-Steffen Walliser shifted the responsibility for the changes to Audi and Porsche. The three brands are closely linked, as they share platforms, powertrains, and components. As a result, their decision to continue the existence of internal combustion engines has impacted Bentley.

This means that gasoline versions of the next generations of Bentayga, Continental, and Flying Spur can be expected. The change is framed as a concession to North America and the Middle East, which show little interest in luxury electric vehicles.

However, Bentley still plans to launch a new plug-in hybrid or electric vehicle every year starting in 2026. This program will begin with the electric crossover Urban SUV and will continue with a greater focus on PHEV models.
