The Model Y Standard is a simplified version of the crossover. To lower the price, Tesla removed a number of features and options:
- The panoramic glass roof is replaced with a metal one
- Leather seats give way to fabric-modified ones
- The front light strips were simplified
- The steering column is manually adjustable, not electrically
- Removed ventilation from the front seats
- No rear seat heating
- Removed the 8-inch rear touchscreen (the central 15.4-inch one remains)
The base 18-inch wheels can be replaced with 19-inch ones for $1,500. The color choices are limited to three: Stealth Grey (standard), Pearl White (+$1,000), and Diamond Black (+$1,500).
Tesla Model Y Standard
The Model Y Standard is equipped with a single electric motor on the rear axle with a power of 300 hp and a slightly reduced battery of 69.5 kWh. The range is 321 miles (517 km), acceleration from 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) is 6.8 seconds.
In comparison: the Model Y Long Range travels 357 miles (574 km) and accelerates in 5.7 seconds. The differences in performance exist, but are not dramatic.

A number of additional options are available:
- Tow hitch ($1,000), which can handle loads up to 1,588 kg
- Full Self-Driving (Supervised) automation support for $8,000
- Fast home charger ($450), adding about 70 km of range per hour
Even with all the options, the Model Y Standard will cost a maximum of $53,630. This is significantly cheaper than the Model Y Performance, which starts at nearly $60,000.
This is not the long-awaited Tesla under $30,000 that had been discussed earlier, but the Model Y Standard still offers a good price-performance ratio. Along with the recently introduced Model 3 Standard for $38,630, Tesla is forming a more affordable lineup by simplifying existing models, abandoning the idea of a fundamentally new budget electric vehicle.
Deliveries of the Model Y Standard will begin in the coming months.
