The massive recall covers certain models of Toyota, Lexus, and Subaru released from 2022 to 2026.

Toyota Motor Company announced a recall of 1.02 million vehicles in the US due to a potential malfunction that could lead to the failure of the rearview camera.

The list includes certain Toyota and Lexus models released from 2022 to 2026, such as the Camry, Highlander, RAV4, Prius, Lexus RX, TX, LS, GX, NX, and LX. The recall also affects Subaru Solterra vehicles equipped with the Panoramic View Monitor system.

The cause is a software error that can cause the camera image to freeze or disappear when reversing. This means that the vehicles do not meet federal standards, said the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The malfunction is "cured" by a software update. The dealers of the mentioned brands will perform it for free.

In recent years, automakers have recalled millions of vehicles due to rearview camera problems. Just last month, Ford recalled 3.3 million vehicles. And last year, Stellantis recalled nearly 1.2 million vehicles due to similar malfunctions.
