The first sedan from Smart is undergoing road tests

The Smart company, owned by the Geely and Mercedes-Benz group, is preparing for a major expansion of its model range. Photos of the prototype of the brand's first-ever sedan, which is expected to hit the market next year, have appeared online.

The novelty will be named Smart #6 and will be based on the Zeekr 007 platform, which will provide it with advanced modular architecture and many modern technologies. It is expected that the model will initially appear in China, where camouflaged prototypes are being tested.

The published photos show modern aerodynamic lines, a sloping roof, aggressive lighting, as well as a large air intake on the bumper and a lidar on the roof. The rear part is designed in the spirit of Mercedes with an active spoiler.

Under the hood is a hybrid powertrain with a 1.5-liter gasoline turbo engine producing 161 hp and an electric motor with 272 hp. Battery capacities of 20 and 41 kWh are expected. The Smart #5 crossover, which has a similar technological basis, has an electric driving range of 252 km and up to 1615 km in a mixed cycle.

It is still unknown whether Smart will be limited to China or if the sedan will appear in other markets.
