Instead of the touch sliders and tactile panels used in the ID.3 and other newer Volkswagen electric vehicles, there are now the familiar buttons and switches. Including a separate ribbed volume control and the classic configuration of four window buttons on the driver's side. The company has already confirmed that this approach will also be applied to other new and revised models.
The steering wheel also features physical buttons to control the cruise control and multimedia system. Volkswagen emphasizes that the focus is on comfort and intuition and not on experimenting with touch-sensitive elements that have been actively promoted in the industry in recent years.
Volkswagen ID. Polo
In front of the driver is a 10.25-inch display, which replaces the screen on the steering column known from the ID.3. The updated software offers a mode with graphics reminiscent of the dashboards of classic Volkswagen Golfs of the 1980s. In the center of the interior, there is a 13-inch touchscreen of the multimedia system, beneath which is a series of physical buttons for controlling air conditioning and hazard lights. A separate rotary knob is responsible for volume and switching tracks or radio stations.
The interior frequently uses soft fabric, partially replacing hard plastic at the front, the doors, and the center console, making the space visually and tactilely warmer.
Volkswagen ID. Polo
In terms of dimensions, the ID. Polo is similar to the combustion engine model. The length is 4053 mm, the width is 1816 mm, the height is 1530 mm, and the wheelbase is 2600 mm. The electric car will be offered with three versions of the front electric motor, each delivering 116 PS (85 kW), 135 PS (99 kW), and 211 PS (155 kW). A more powerful GTI version with 223 PS is planned for next year.
Buyers can choose between two types of batteries: a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) with a capacity of 37 kWh and a nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) with 52 kWh. The larger battery enables a range of up to 450 km. Depending on the version, the fast charging power is 90 to 130 kW. The model is based on the updated Volkswagen MEB+ platform.
Volkswagen had previously stated a starting price of 25,000 € in Germany for the ID. Polo. However, it was later revealed that mainly more expensive versions will be available at the start of sales, and the actual starting price is likely to be closer to 30,000 €.
