The Base Station fits in a regular garage or parking spot near a residential building. The prototype is designed for towing by compact crossovers such as the Honda CR-V, as well as electric vehicles, including the Honda Prologue and the future Honda 0 series crossover.
The Base Station features a modular design with removable side windows and a pop-up roof, providing an interior height of up to 2.1 meters. It accommodates sleeping arrangements for four people. Autonomous power supply is provided by built-in solar panels, a lithium-ion battery, and an inverter, with the option to operate on external power sources during extended stops.
The list of accessories includes air conditioning, an external shower, and an induction stove.
According to Jane Nakagawa, Vice President of Honda RD America, the project demonstrates what can be achieved when engineers and designers are given the freedom for bold ideas. Such a trailer could make camping more accessible and comfortable for families.
