BYD has extended the warranty on its Blade battery for customers in the European Economic Area, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.

The warranty coverage is now eight years or 250,000 km of mileage instead of the previous 150,000 km, while maintaining the term and guaranteed minimum residual battery capacity at 70%.

The automaker reported that the updated conditions apply to both new vehicles and those already sold. This means current owners of BYD electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids automatically receive the extended warranty without any additional actions.

Blade batteries are based on lithium iron phosphate (LFP) chemistry. They are installed in all BYD passenger cars sold in Europe. According to the company, the battery pack withstands over 3,000 charge and discharge cycles, equivalent to mileage of about 1.2 million kilometers.

The standard BYD warranty package also includes a basic warranty of six years or 150,000 km, a 12-year anti-perforation body warranty with no mileage limitation, and an eight-year or 150,000 km warranty on the electric powertrain.

The extended battery warranty does not apply to vehicles used in mobility services, cars with special corporate warranty conditions, or the BYD ETP3 commercial model.
