Volkswagen plans to rename the ID.4 electric crossover to ID. Tiguan to leverage the recognition and popularity of the Tiguan model with ICE.
The name change of Volkswagen ID.4 will take place together with the debut of the updated version of the model later this year. This is reported by Automotive News, citing the IG Metall union in Germany.
In Europe, the new model will be presented in the second half of the year. Sales in the US will start shortly after that.
According to the publication, the production of the updated ID.4 under the ID. Tiguan name is planned until 2031.
Recall that the production version of the ID.4 debuted in September 2020 as the first fully electric crossover under the Volkswagen brand. The model is produced in Germany, the USA, and China. The ID.4 is available in rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive versions.
