Just a few years ago, upgrading a car meant buying a new model or at least visiting a dealer for a physical replacement of parts. Today, the concept of a Software Defined Vehicle is changing the rules of the game. The Chinese company Xpeng released a major XOS 5.8.7 firmware update for its key models — the G6 and G9 crossovers.

Predictability instead of abruptness
The main focus of the developers in version XOS 5.8.7 is on driver assistance systems (ADAS). The adaptive cruise control and Lane Centering Control systems received new operation algorithms. The main goal is to make the electronics behave more humanely and less irritatingly.
According to the manufacturer, the update significantly reduced the number of unwanted "phantom" braking events that often occur in complex road conditions. Stability during straight-line driving for the Xpeng G6 and Xpeng G9 was also improved: the system minimizes steering wheel micro-corrections, making the ride more comfortable for the driver. Additionally, lane departure notifications have become more accurate, which directly impacts safety, highly rated by Euro NCAP.
Digital comfort and entertainment
The multimedia system also received attention. Developers optimized interface response speed and provided more stable connections with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. This is critically important for users who rely on third-party navigation services and music apps.
For the European market, the app ecosystem has expanded:
- Added the official Disney+ client for content viewing during stops or charging.
- Introduced Karafun — a service for karaoke enthusiasts.
- Implemented support for ten interface languages, making interaction with the car easier in different countries.
Download speed and efficiency
OTA (Over-the-Air) updates now happen faster. Thanks to the improvement of data transmission protocols via Wi-Fi, the time during which the car remains stationary during software installation has been reduced. This allows the owner not to plan the update as a separate event, conducting it in the background mode with minimal inconvenience.
