Subaru is preparing the most powerful model in its history with a focus on family travel and 420 horsepower "under the hood" for the premiere.

Subaru decided not to wait for April Fools' jokes and, a week before the New York show, put the first cards on the table. The Japanese brand is preparing a new flagship crossover for the premiere, which promises to become the most powerful production model in the brand's history. So far, we only have one teaser and a portion of technical insights, but they make you look at the upcoming novelty with considerable interest.

Power you didn't expect

The main news is the numbers under the hood (or under the floor if it's about electricity). According to preliminary data, the power plant will produce about 420 horsepower. This is significantly more than in the charged versions of the WRX STI of past years. Such performance suggests that Subaru is seriously aiming to compete in the segment of powerful family cars.

Of course, the brand’s signature all-wheel-drive system will not go anywhere. It is expected that the drive will be implemented with the help of two electric motors — one for each axle. This will allow not only instant distribution of torque but also the same stability on the off-road that fans love the brand for. Probably, the technical base will be borrowed from proven partners, as Subaru is actively developing cooperation with Toyota in the field of electrification.

Seven seats and family values

Despite potentially interesting dynamic characteristics, this car is not created for the track but for real life. The main focus is on space and versatility. Judging by the dimensions in the teaser, the crossover will have a three-row cabin for seven seats. This is a logical step to expand the audience, especially in the US market, where large SUVs are in high demand.

The design of the novelty, although hidden in twilight, shows familiar features. We see:

  • A characteristic light signature with several elements, similar to that of the electric Solterra
  • An illuminated logo on the radiator grille — a new brand trend
  • Massive roof rails emphasizing readiness for adventures off the asphalt
  • A robust two-volume silhouette with short overhangs

When to expect the premiere

The official debut is scheduled for April 1, 2026, as part of the New York International Auto Show. It is there that the Japanese will reveal all the cards: from the model name to the type of power plant (hybrid or pure electric vehicle) and range.
