Chevrolet has officially introduced two new Corvette Grand Sport models: with a conventional V8 engine and a hybrid V8 that will replace the Corvette E-Ray.

Chevrolet decided not to play along with the downsizing trends and rolled out a new iteration of the 2027 Corvette Grand Sport. This is exactly what old school fans were waiting for: large displacement, no turbos, and power that even makes the owner of a track Z06 feel awkward. The company has officially revealed the details of the new family, which now includes not only the regular gasoline version but also an extreme hybrid model.

The heart of the new lineup is the LS6 engine - a new generation V8 developed by General Motors. This is a naturally aspirated 6.7-liter unit, producing 535 hp (394 kW) and 705 Nm of torque. Interestingly, this same unit will become standard for the base Stingray from 2027, finally retiring the previous engine versions.

Technical features of the LS6

GM engineers seriously worked on the "hardware". The LS6 engine received forged pistons and rods, redesigned exhaust manifolds, and a completely new lubrication system. The compression ratio is 13:1, which, together with a 95-millimeter throttle body and tunnel ram intake system, makes it one of the most efficient naturally aspirated engines in its class. All this power is transmitted to the wheels through an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission.

The standard equipment of the Grand Sport includes Magnetic Ride Control suspension with specific "touring" settings and all-season Michelin Pilot Sport tires. For those who want more, there is the Z52 Performance package with summer tires and brakes from the Z06, or the hardcore Z52 Track Pack with carbon-ceramics and an advanced carbon fiber aerodynamic kit.

Grand Sport X: A hybrid that surpasses the Z06

The biggest surprise was the debut of the Grand Sport X (GSX), which will replace the E-Ray model in the lineup. Here, the same 6.7-liter V8 works in tandem with an electric motor on the front axle, borrowed from the top ZR1X. The electric addition adds 186 hp (137 kW), resulting in a total of 721 hp (530 kW). This is 66 hp more than the current E-Ray and even exceeds the Z06, which has a 5.5-liter engine with 670 hp.

The eAWD all-wheel-drive system makes the GSX a versatile tool for both track and public roads. Even in the "base" configuration, the hybrid comes with ceramic brakes, indicating the seriousness of the manufacturer’s intentions. It is expected that the Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport will appear at American dealerships this summer.

Pricing matters

Although official prices have not yet been announced, market analysis provides clear guidelines. The base 2026 Stingray will start at approximately $70,000, while the Z06 will cost $121,000. The new Grand Sport is likely to occupy a niche around $90,000, offering high-level technology for a more moderate price by supercar standards. The hybrid GSX, considering its power, will approach the $110,000 mark.
