Renault flagships received a dose of fresh technologies, including Gemini artificial intelligence and an improved safety system.

The French car manufacturer decided that attractive design alone is not enough to keep its largest crossovers relevant. The Renault Espace and Rafale models received a 2026 update package, with the main focus on technology.

Artificial intelligence instead of the usual assistant

The main news inside the cabin is the integration of Google Gemini. This advanced chatbot replaces the old Google Assistant in the OpenR Link system. Now, interacting with the car should resemble a conversation with a living person. Gemini understands complex queries, can engage in dialogue, and assist with car settings or searching for information online without the need to clearly formulate commands according to a template.

In addition to the smart bot, Renault updated the communication system. Thanks to its partnership with Airnity, crossovers can now connect to the network without a smartphone. The traffic package is designed for several years.

Charging in a new standard and safety

Engineers listened to complaints about smartphones overheating during wireless charging. The center console is equipped with a new Qi2 standard device that is compatible with MagSafe technology. It provides more stable coil fixation, faster energy transfer, and significantly less heating of the gadget.

There are also changes in safety issues. A driver condition monitoring camera has appeared on the front pillar. It monitors the direction of gaze and signs of fatigue. If the system recognizes that the person behind the wheel is falling asleep or losing consciousness, the electronics can independently stop the car in a safe place.

Technical specifications and cost

Under the hood, no radical changes. Both models are offered with a full-fledged E-Tech hybrid of 200 hp. For the Rafale coupe-crossover, a powerful plug-in hybrid version with 300 hp, all-wheel drive, and a battery capacity of 22 kW·h remains available.

Among visual updates, it is worth noting the appearance of the matte color "Gray Shale" (Blu Ardesia) for the Espace and new interior trim options made of black eco-leather TEP for the Rafale. There is also a new Smart Mode, which automatically adjusts the work of the transmission and engine to the individual driving style.

The prices for the updated models are already known:

  • Renault Espace starts from 42,900 euros, and the 7-seat version will cost from 43,900 euros
  • Renault Rafale in hybrid version priced at 43,900 euros
