LEGO is launching a large-scale competition for Batman fans: design a new Batmobile without the help of artificial intelligence.

For Bruce Wayne, a car has never been just a means of transportation. Since the first Batman story was published in 1939, the world has seen over 250 variations of the Batmobile. LEGO decided it was time for a new iteration, and this time the designers will be the fans themselves.

The company officially announced the start of the LEGO Batman: Build the Legacy of the Batmobile challenge. The occasion is twofold: the 20th anniversary of the first set dedicated to the Dark Knight and the release of the new video game LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight.

Game Rules: Only Brain and Plastic

Competition conditions on the LEGO Ideas platform are democratic but strict in detail. Participants are allowed to use any type of branded bricks: System, Duplo, Technic, or Construction. The main requirement is that parts cannot be modified, painted, or cut. You have to work with what the factory provides and prove mastery with standard fastenings.

Although Batman traditionally prefers black and all shades of gray, organizers do not restrict the color palette. Want a pink Batmobile? Feel free if you can explain it with the aesthetics of the night city. However, there is one important prohibition: no artificial intelligence. LEGO notes that the design must be the product of exclusively human imagination and engineering thought. No AI-generated sketches - only "pure" creativity.

Deadlines and Prizes

There is not much time for development. Applications are accepted until May 13. After that, a special jury, consisting of professional LEGO designers and DC Comics representatives, will select the best works. Five winners will be announced on May 22.

The rewards are worth digging out dusty boxes of parts from under the bed. Finalists will receive:

  • access code to the new game LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight;
  • an exclusive selection of five LEGO sets dedicated to Batman;
  • digital visualization of their model directly in the video game.
