The all-new Mazda CX-60 will be the first model to feature the new shade delivered by Mazda’s unique Takuminuri painting technology.

Mazda Motor Corporation has announced a new Rhodium White Premium paint color created using the unique Takuminuri paint technology. It will be available from the summer of 2022, first for the large Mazda CX-60 crossover, and then for other large models of the brand.

Takuminuri's technology reproduces accurate, high-quality paintwork, as if hand-painted by a skilled craftsman on a mass-produced vehicle line. The new color is the third of a new series of colors after Soul Red Crystal and Machine Gray Premium.

Rhodium White Premium is a pure white color inspired by the Japanese aesthetic that finds beauty in simplicity and the absence of superfluous elements. In addition, the fine grain of the paint accentuates the shadows on the car's surface, complementing the metallic texture.

The coating is applied in three layers: color, reflective and transparent. Generally, with white paints, the primer tends to show through and the clear coat is usually thicker than for other tones. However, Rhodium White Premium contains a newly developed pigment that has reduced the thickness of the clear coat by 30%. This feature contributes to a more efficient use of resources and a reduction in CO2 emissions during production.

Mazda uses a method in which a paint containing ultra-thin, high-brightness aluminum flakes is applied to achieve a uniform thickness and then drastically reduced in volume as the reflective layer dries. The result is an extremely thin reflective layer approximately 0.5 microns thick, or about 7% of the thickness of a typical reflective layer.

The Mazda CX-60 crossover was introduced in March 2022. With a length of 4.75 m, the CX-60 is located in the lineup between the CX-5 and CX-9 SUVs. Another feature of the novelty was the power plant - this is Mazda's first plug-in hybrid, although the CX-60 will also have gasoline and diesel versions.

The starting European price for the CX-60 e-Skyactiv PHEV is €47,390.
