Hyundai Motor America has announced lineup changes for 2023. The cheapest Accent sedan and Veloster N hatchback will retire.

Hyundai said the Accent is being phased out due to its expanding lineup of SUVs and crossovers. This category includes Hyundai Venue, which will take the position of a new entry-level car. That being said, the Accent starts at $16,645 and the Venue starts at $19,000.

The difference in price between Accent and Venue is significant, however, according to statistics, more buyers are choosing crossovers, which has led to a sharp drop in sales of the compact sedan. If in 2016 Hyundai sold 76,766 Accent cars in the USA, then in 2021, the sales of this model were reduced to only 19,614 units. Prior to the Covid-19 pandemic in 2019, Accent sales were 25,628 units.

Despite the departure from America, Accent will continue to exist as a model in other countries of the world - prototypes of a new generation of sedan are already being tested. The company also said it is keeping the Elantra and Sonata sedans in the lineup.

Hyundai Veloster N Hyundai Veloster N

The Veloster N hatchback was not as marketable as the Elantra N sedan and Kona N crossover, so it has also been sent to the museum from the next model year. Considering that Hyundai Motor America cut other versions of the Veloster even earlier, the retirement of the Veloster N means the end of the life cycle of the entire model line.

Hyundai Ioniq Hyundai Ioniq

Next month, the plant in Ulsan, South Korea, will also finish production of the Hyundai Ioniq, which is no longer sold in America but is available on other continents. The company attributed the move to a significant expansion of its electrified vehicle lineup, which includes hybrids, plug-in hybrids and all-electric models. In addition, the Ioniq 6 was recently introduced, which will replace the original Ioniq.
