Portugal offered Ukraine M113 armored vehicles as help to fight Russian aggression, informed Portugal Post.
The armored vehicles were transported from the Santa Margarida military base on seven tractor-trailers, which were leased by the US government for this specific purpose. The entire operation is financed by the US and the UK, which freed Portugal from additional costs.
The specified batch of M113 will arrive in Poland, and then will be transported to Ukraine.
The M113 is an American armored personnel carrier produced from 1960 to 2007. For a long time it remained the main armored personnel carrier of the United States, and was also supplied in significant quantities to other countries.
Portugal bought 150 used M113s from the US about 30 years ago, following the drawdown of the US Army in Europe. According to the command of the Portuguese Army, the transfer of 14 armored personnel carriers to Ukraine will not weaken the country's defense.
